December in “HOME AFFAIRS mid century FURNITURE”

For our 1st December trading I decided to have a South African theme in the store. For 2 reasons, one the store is a proudly South African store, and a lot of the vintage furniture that is in the store was actually manufactured in South African, and secondly in homage to the name of the store, “HOME AFFAIRS”. You can’t get more South African than that. The mere name brings up images of ID Books, passports, birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates and of course that slow wait ….. all of these things my store does not offer you

But enough of that.

Here is a copy of a 1938 map of South Africa. It came from an atlas I bought at a market “EERSTE AFRIKAANSE SKOOL ATLAS”, published by J.L. VAN SCHAIK, BPK. PRETORIA 1938. The one shown in the picture is printed on canvas and mounted (92 x 73cm) and goes for R1500. There are also paper versions available (the same size) for R350 each.

Here is a selection of vases, some old, some not so old. The vases range from R90 to R410.

Here is the latest edition to the cushion range. The South African flag cushion. It is all felt (60 x60cm) and goes for R750 each. Magnificent.

And here is some more of our Afrikaans cushions, this time in a denim blue. These are 50 x 50cm and go for R260 each. This fabric is 100% South African and manufactured and designed right in the Cape. These are going to be a great hit. Get yours NOW!

Here are two cushions made from vintage fabrics. These cushions go for R210 each. Here are cushions which you may call re-cycleable (my weak joke), but nothing should go to waste especially such lovely fabric.

Other cushions we have in stock.  Our all felt Union Jack cushion (60 x 60cm) for R750each. The Quagga Fabrics Moulli Point Lighthouse cushion (60 x 60cm ) for R350 each.  There is a range of stripped cushions in blue and grey (50 x 520cm) and they are R270 each. Finally a plain red cushion (50 x 50cm ) also R270 each.

Also in stock is this wonderful dinning room suite. Solid oak, oval extension table and 6 chairs. The chairs still have their original corduroy fabric on the back and the seat. (SOLD).

Also in stock are two Drinks cabinets.

The 1st one is my favorite just because it is full of little surprise. It has a central hinge and when closed looks like a pedestal. And then it opens up to become a little bar, and then it open up even more with extensions  ….. fantastic. R2200.

The other little cabinet is a real South African version of the mid century drinks cabinet. Neat and compact. R1100.

Also new on the floor are two bookcases. Both manufactured here in South Africa in the 50’s or 60’s. The 1st is a small compact bookcase with doors and adjustable shelves inside. R1100. The other is a corner unit bookshelf (also with adjustable shelves) R800.

Well folks that is all for this week. I should be getting some new upholstered pieces in soon. So please keep following.
