So what’s new at HOME AFFAIRS mid century FURNITURE?

Friday 16 November 2012

Well we have had a few new pieces come into the store.
·         A pair of grey chairs (R3500 each)

·         An AIRFLEX couch (SOLD), still in its original olive green vinyl. Just had the seat cushions redone. Wonderful piece of useless information is that AIRFLEX was a furniture company based in Germiston, and I believe only closed down in the late 70’s. I believe there was even a factory here in Cape Town.

·         And a retro coffee table (SOLD).

·         And  a room divider / screen (R1900).

Because of some sales and new stock we also have moved the store around. Here are some pics of the new look store.

Here we have a detail pic of one of our chairs (R2300)

HOME AFFAIRS mid century FURNITURE is open for trade

HOME AFFAIRS mid century FURNITURE is open for trade

The store is finally open for trade. We open the doors to trade yesterday, 01 November 2012.

STORE CONCEPT.
The idea behind the store is to make mid century furniture accessible to the public and to show that it is far more than just vintage, retro (or however you want to define the era) but that the pieces can fit into any contemporary home with ease. The store has been accessorised with contemporary  décor items as well as some collectable items. The end result, is a look that is fluid, individualistic and fun.

The colours are vivid and bright, but never garish, with a concentration on blue, red and yellow.

The store will be concentrating on mid century lounge and dinning room furniture. All the lounge chairs have been re-covered in plain fabrics. I believe if the individual wants to add pattern it can be done with cushions, throws and other décor items, believing that pattern only distracts from the simplicity of the design of the furniture items.

The store also has a wonderful range of cushions, the most magnificent being the Union Jack cushions. These cushions are 60x60cm and made from felt. There is also a range of cushions made from real vintage fabric. Look out for them. Also available in store is our own range of lamp shades and amongst them is a range also made from vintage fabric.

The store is guaranteed to have something for all ages and price ranges. We have items starting at R45 and at the moment our most expensive item is R4000.

When you visit the store please leave your name and contact details and your sphere of interest. We would like to know this so that we can make sure we have more of what you want to shop for ….. and also as loyal customers to invite you to our preview evenings of our SALES and promotions. In amongst everything in the store you will notice items that are NOT FOR SALE. These are our shop props, and every 6 months we will be having a prop sale, and this will be on invitation only. Another reason we need your contact details. How the prop sale will work is that on the counter there will be a bowl of discounts. You the customer choose the item you want to buy and draw out your mystery discount. Inside the bowl will be discounts from 10%; 20% right up to 95%. It will all work on the luck of the draw.

So please come and visit the store. We will be open Monday to Friday from 09h00 till 17h30 and on Saturdays from 09h00 till 14h00.

We are located at 407a Albert Road Salt River Cape Town (021-4473427). The directions are as follows; if you are coming from the city, you head towards the BISCUIT MILL, and we are the 7th store past the gates of the BISCUIT MILL, on the same side of the road, heading towards SALT RIVER CIRCLE. If you are coming from the Southern suburbs you head towards the SALT RIVER CIRCLE  going towards the city; about a 200m after the circle you will get a store called RECREATE (it will be on your left), we are located directly opposite, on the right hand side of the road.

And now for some view of the inside of the store. Enjoy!

As you walk into the store on your right hand side is this magnificent little lounge suite. A lovely two seater couch (R4000), with one of our individually designed UNION JACK cushions (R750 each), which only highlights the size of the couch. Please note the detail of the red piping on the couch and the two chairs. The chairs (R2300 each) are recovered in the matching fabric as the couch. Also note the little side tables in bright yellow (R1900 each) with the fun blue glass lamps with matching shades (R1995 each including lampshade) and of course we can't forget the fun coffee table (R7900) also in the same bright yellow. The side tables (I call them the FEET TABLES) were an incredible find, which only became more fantastic after we had them painted yellow. (photo- Russell Southey)

As you walk in the store on your left hand side is this little mid century dinning table with its glass top (R4000). It seats 4 people perfectly comfortably. The chairs are still in their original vinyl (R3000 for the set of 4).  Note the glass ice bowl with the long arum lilies which emphasize the size of the table and the Jonathan Adler inspired lampshades in the background. (photo- Russell Southey)
Further back in the store is this little collection. Here we have two mid century floor lamps (in the background; R1200 each, and the shades are R820 each), a selection of yellow tables and a red single chair (R2300) and of course more of the UNION JACK  cushions. In the foreground you can see one of our DOG MAGAZINE RACKS (R650). (photo- Russell Southey)

Here are some detail images of the yellow tables ( the small kitchen table R650; the small plant stand R750; and the milk maids stool R490, and some of the items we are using as decor items. The two glass ducks are part of our store props (its these items which will go on the PROP SALE in 6 months time, that you need to give us your details for). The tin cars are R75. And then there is this wonderful shot of the UNION JACK  cushions (R750) and the red lampshade (R820). (photo- Russell Southey)
Also at the back of the store are some more lounge chairs (R2300 each), some more decor items and some tables painted white and yellow. Not how the red lampshades (R820 each) light the room. (photo- Russell Southey)
Here is one of our mid century chest of drawers (SOLD). The amazing thing about this chest of drawers is that because of its simple and  elegant design it will equally as good in the living room as it will in a bedroom. personally i think it will be lost in a bedroom, the design just has to shown off to it fullest potential. In the foreground you can see another of our mid century floor lamps (R1200). (photo- Russell Southey)

Here are a few images of what we have on our walls. The mirrors are for sale but the prints and paintings are once again shop props that will go on sale in 6 months time. (photo- Russell Southey)

A Display on a chest of drawers, consisting of glass bottles (the large clear glass bottle R10445; the medium glass bottle R600; and the blue glass bottle R360); the ornamental dog (shop prop) and the porcelain Buddha (R840). (photo- Russell Southey)

A ginger jar in a deep blue (R320) and three ornamental dogs (shop props). (photo- Russell Southey)

Two porcelain CABBAGE vases  (R490)and a small LUCIA vase (shop prop). (photo- Russell Southey)

A vase filled with aqua floaters (R70 each).  (photo- Russell Southey)

A selection of little tin cars (R45 each).  (photo- Russell Southey)

Two kissi stone hippo's (R110 each).  (photo- Russell Southey)

Finally two mid century glass fish (shop props).   (photo- Russell Southey).

And that is all for today. As soon as we get new stock and more fantastic finds I will add more. till then please come into the store and become a follower on the blog. all appreciated.
